East Semi Preview: Als v. Bombers

We’ll breakdown each and every playoff game with a special RFTW preview.

How to beat the Bombers:

For the Als to be successful today they’ll have to get to Kevin Glenn and disrupt his timing. Glenn has one of the quickest triggers in the league  and an all-star receiving corps, so pressure will have to come quickly. If Glenn gets time, it’s curtains for Montreal. On offence the Als will have to eat the clock with Jarrett Payton and safe passes. If the Als can harass Glenn and limit the yardage of Chaz Roberts they will be in good shape. A couple 1st quarter scores would help too.

How to beat the Als:

Thr Bombers need to establish Roberts early. If they can do that it will open up their passing game and the Als will be in a world of trouble. The Bomber o-line needs to protect Glenn so he can toss er around to his receivers. On D the Bombers need to contain Marcus Brady in the pocket and make him a passer. They also need to keep an eye/two DBs on Ben Cahoon.

Who has the edge?

Offence

Bombers – this one’s eaasy the Bomb Squad has the East division Most Outstanding Player, the CFl’s all-time TD leader, one of the top three rushers in the league and two more all-star pass grabbers.

Defence

Bombers – the Bomber d-line is one of the best in the league and tackling machine Barrin Simpson.

Specialty Teams

Als – both squads have rejected returners (Levingston, Stokes) but Montreal has a distinct advantage in the kicking game with Damon Duval.

Coaching

Bombers – Doug Berry is 0-1 in the playoffs. Jim Popp is 1-1 as a playoff head coach. We like the fact that Berry has actually won as an assistant and Popp has looked especially brutal at time’s this season. The Als also have Rider fans fav Marcel Bellfuille calling plays.

Intangibles

Bombers – The Blue nad Gold are playing at home and have their motivational/inspirational leader Milt Stegall urging them on.

Edge: Bombers

Score prediction: Winnipeg 23, Montreal 14
