After a slow start to the season (2.7 yards per carry) Montreal running back Robert Edwards may be on the outs. The Gazette’s Herb Zurkowsky is reporting that Edwards did not accompany the team to Toronto – in his place Jarret Payton. The CFL rookie is the son of NFL great Walter Payton. Sweetness Jr. will make his debut tonight against Toronto. It was just last year that Edwards was an Eastern Division All-Star. Edwards weighed in on the demotion:
“It was a shock this early not to even make the travelling squad. It’s more insight into what might happen.”
Payton lets fans know what to expect:
“You’ll see passion, hard running and the real me. This is what I do. Football is what I know and love. You’ll see everything.”
The Als face a quandary now in the backfield because highly touted NFL castoff Bruce Perry injured his knee and is gone for the season and Mike Imoh, the rookie who started the season in the Als backfield is out for nine game’s.
With Bryan Chiu also out, the Alouettes will need a win with two major pieces missing. BTW, Robert’s bro Terrence is killing it in Winnipeg.
