The Toronto Argonauts surprised no one signing Derrell “Mookie” Mitchell to a contract but somewhat more suprising was their acquisition of former NFL kicker Steve Christie. Injuries to do-it-all kicker Noel Prefontaine are the reason for Christie’s presence.

Christie, 39, was born in Hamilton and grew up in Oakville. The former Buffalo Bill played for four NFL teams, he’ll play his first CFL game on Saturday night versus the Tiger-Cats.

Mitchell, 35, was released by the Edmonton Eskimos. The CFL vet and former Argo needs only 91 yards to surpass Paul Masotti and become the team’s all-time leading pass catcher. Hopefully the Argos can find a QB to get Mookie those 91 yards.

Perhaps most importantly Damon Allen and Pinball Clemons can now complete their lawn bowling foursome.
